Mixx Tanzania Names Louis Favot CEO as Angelica Pesha Steps Down
Mixx Tanzania has appointed Louis-Olivier Favot as its new chief executive officer, succeeding Angelica Pesha, who is stepping down after more than 15 years with the mobile money and fintech business.
Favot, an international digital finance executive with 17 years of experience in banking, microfinance, mobile money and digital financial services, 14 of them in Sub-Saharan Africa , takes the helm of one of Tanzania’s major digital financial platforms.
He most recently served as CEO of MVola in Madagascar, the country’s leading mobile financial service and its first licensed digital bank, both under the AXIAN Group.
During his time at MVola, the platform grew to more than 15 million accounts, supported by a network of 50,000 cash points and 10,000 merchants. Favot oversaw the launch of MVola Fô, which allowed users on competing networks including Orange, Airtel and Telma to access the MVola Super App.
Under his leadership, MVola also earned B Corp certification, recognizing standards in social and environmental performance and accountability, and established a remittance partnership with MFS Africa enabling international transfers into Malagasy digital wallets.
Pesha’s departure closes a long chapter that began when the business operated as Tigo Pesa, a mobile money product under Millicom. She became the first Tanzanian woman and the first non-expatriate to head a core business unit at Tigo, serving as chief officer of mobile financial services. In that role she helped transform the unit into an independent company.
Appointed CEO in 2020, Pesha guided the business through its rebranding and restructuring into Mixx by YAS under the AXIAN Group. Under her leadership the platform expanded to serve more than 20 million Tanzanians and process roughly 6 trillion Tanzanian shillings in monthly transactions.
Key initiatives included early work on Africa’s first fully interoperable mobile money network, the launch of the Mixx Super App and Mixx Wakala App (integrating banking, micro-lending and savings features), a partnership enabling users to access and trade Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange securities via the Super App.
She also oversaw a recent digital collaboration with the Zanzibar NGO Forum to support civil society groups and micro-enterprises with the Mixx Business Suite.
