CBZ Names Munya Chiura Executive as It Establishes Fintech Unit

CBZ Fintech has appointed Munya Chiura as Executive, CBZ Fintech, following the establishment of a dedicated fintech capability within CBZ Group. The position is a newly created executive desk and does not replace an existing executive.

The new unit has been created to accelerate innovation and strengthen the Group’s fintech capabilities as financial services become increasingly digital.

Munya Chiura’s responsibilities will include supporting CBZ’s expansion across Africa, the United States and other target markets, as well as developing relationships with international banks, fintech companies and payment networks.

The role also covers cross-border merchant payments, remittances, global payment infrastructure and correspondent banking relationships.

Chiura brings more than 25 years of experience in financial services, fintech and cross-border payments. He has worked across Africa, the United States and other international markets, holding senior positions at Flywire, Flutterwave, MPOWER Financing and dLocal.

Most recently, he served as Head of Growth for EMEA at dLocal, where he supported the expansion of the cross-border payments company’s operations across emerging markets.

Before joining dLocal, Chiura was Head of Rest of Africa Growth at Flutterwave, Head of Africa Business Development at MPOWER Financing and Head of Middle East and Africa Payments at Flywire.

His experience includes market expansion, business development, digital payments and partnerships with banks, fintech companies and start-ups.

Beyond his corporate roles, Chiura has worked as an Innovation Consultant for the World Bank in Zimbabwe. He also serves as an Independent Director at Embed Financial Group Holdings and sits on the Fintech Africa Advisory Board at Village Capital.

His earlier career included an eight-year stint at Comdata Corporation in Nashville, United States, where he worked on technology-driven operational systems.

Chiura’s Educational Background

Chiura holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Lehigh University and a Master of Business Administration in International Business from the University of Phoenix. He has undertaken advanced doctoral research in International Business.

His professional qualifications include an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master’s Certificate in IT/Project Management from Villanova University.

He is also a Six Sigma Black Belt, with expertise in operations, process optimisation and project management.
