Visa has joined forces with BCP International (BCPI), a subsidiary of the pan-African Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) Group, to transform the digital payment landscape across Sub-Saharan Africa.

This partnership is a step in BCP Group’s ongoing expansion efforts, which span 16 banking subsidiaries across 14 countries in the region.

The collaboration aims to enhance financial services offered by BCP Group’s subsidiaries, including the Banque Atlantique network, BIA Niger, BICEC in Cameroon, BCI in Congo, BMOI in Madagascar, and BCP Bank Mauritius.

The partnership, by expanding payment card offerings and introducing innovative solutions such as e-commerce platforms and localized digital payment services, is poised to address the specific needs of African populations.

Abdeslam Bennani, Director General of BCPI, highlighted the initiative’s importance.

“This partnership marks a decisive step in our growth and innovation strategy. It illustrates our commitment to promoting access to financial services in Africa while offering innovative solutions perfectly adapted to the specific needs of our clients.”

A critical component of the collaboration is Visa’s advanced fraud prevention technology, which will help ensure secure and reliable payment solutions for users. Aida Diarra, Senior Vice President of Visa Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighted the shared vision of the two organizations.

“At VISA, we deeply believe in the power of digital payments to transform the lives of people and businesses across the world.”

Beyond enhancing financial services, the partnership also aims to tackle the broader challenge of financial inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa, where a large portion of the population remains outside traditional banking systems. This initiative, by improving access to banking services and fostering innovation, seeks to drive sustainable economic growth and development across the continent.

BCPI supports BCP Group’s activities in Sub-Saharan Africa, covering sectors such as banking, investment banking, insurance, and fintech. The organization focuses on strengthening its local presence, diversifying product offerings, and leveraging synergies across its network to create competitive advantages for both individual and corporate clients.

Visa, on the other hand, brings its global expertise as a leader in digital payments. Operating in over 200 countries and territories, Visa’s technological infrastructure and experience in fraud prevention will be instrumental in delivering secure and efficient payment solutions to BCP’s African network.
