KRA Customs Revenue Collection Hits Record KSh 92.53 Billion in July 2026
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Customs and Border Control Department recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue collection of KSh 92.53 billion in July 2026, marking a strong start to the 2026/27 financial year.
The July KRA customs revenue collection exceeded the Treasury target of KSh 86.16 billion by KSh 6.37 billion, representing a performance rate of 107.39 per cent. The collection also increased by 15.3 per cent year-on-year, compared with the KSh 80.29 billion collected in July 2025.
The latest performance surpassed the previous monthly record of KSh 89.1 billion, which Customs collected in June 2026.
Customs Revenue Collection Surpasses Treasury Target
The July 2026 collection represents continued growth in Customs revenue mobilisation, with the department exceeding its monthly target by more than KSh 6 billion.
Customs and Border Control’s performance comes after another record collection in June, when revenue reached KSh 89.1 billion. The two consecutive monthly records mark the department’s strongest reported collection levels.
A major contributor to the July performance was growth in non-oil revenue collections, which reached KSh 61.50 billion.
The July figure marked the first time KRA Customs recorded more than KSh 60 billion in non-oil revenue in a single month.
Technology and Compliance Support Revenue Growth
KRA attributed the revenue performance to measures aimed at strengthening revenue mobilisation, improving compliance and facilitating legitimate trade.
The Authority has continued to expand the use of technology in Customs administration, including data-driven cargo risk management, declaration processing and enforcement activities.
The measures are also intended to strengthen controls against illicit trade and revenue leakage while improving the efficiency, transparency and predictability of Customs operations for traders.
Cargo management and trade facilitation initiatives have also continued at Kenya’s borders and the Port of Mombasa.
KRA Focuses on Revenue Mobilisation in 2026/27
The record July collection provides the opening revenue performance for the Customs and Border Control Department in the 2026/27 financial year.
KRA said its ongoing Customs reforms are focused on making it easier for compliant businesses to trade while ensuring that revenue due to the Government is collected.
The Authority also continues to use technology, compliance measures and stakeholder collaboration to strengthen Customs administration and revenue collection.
The KSh 92.53 billion July collection therefore represents an increase of KSh 12.24 billion from the KSh 80.29 billion collected during the same month in 2025.
With non-oil collections reaching KSh 61.50 billion, the July performance also established a new monthly record for this revenue category.
KRA’s Customs and Border Control Department will continue its revenue mobilisation, compliance, trade facilitation and enforcement activities during the 2026/27 financial year.
