Geoffrey Odundo Takes the Helm at Nation Media Group
Geoffrey Odundo, the former CEO of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), has been appointed the new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nation Media Group (NMG). His appointment takes effect on April 7, 2025.
The announcement was made by NMG Board Chairman Dr. Wilfred Kiboro, who described Odundo as a seasoned executive with deep expertise in investment banking and strategic leadership.
Odundo takes over from Richard Tobiko, who has been holding the fort as the Interim Nation Media Group CEO since July 2024 following the departure of former CEO Stephen Gitagama. The board extended its appreciation to Tobiko for his service during the transition period.
A Seasoned Financial Leader
Geoffrey Odundo brings over three decades of experience in Kenya’s financial services sector. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi Securities Exchange from 2015 to 2024.
Under his leadership, the NSE launched Kenya’s first derivatives market, introduced Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), and rolled out the Ibuka Program to support high-growth companies.
He also oversaw the demutualization of the NSE, transforming it into a publicly listed company—only the second exchange in Africa to do so, after Johannesburg.
Before joining NSE, Odundo was the Managing Director and CEO of Kingdom Securities Limited, a subsidiary of Co-operative Bank of Kenya. He played an important role in positioning the firm as one of the leading trading participants at the NSE.
His earlier roles include spearheading the establishment of Co-op Trust Investment Services and Co-op Consultancy Services.
Most recently, Odundo has been serving as Group Executive Advisor at CPF Group, a financial services firm focused on pension fund management and regional expansion across Africa.
Academic and Professional Credentials
Odundo holds an MBA in Strategic Management from the United States International University (USIU) Africa and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Economics from Egerton University.
He is also currently pursuing a PhD in Business Administration and Management at the University of Nairobi.
