Ecobank Uganda has teamed up with digital payment platform SurePay to make paying school fees easier, faster, and more secure for thousands of families across the country.

Launched this month at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala, the initiative introduces a digital platform that allows parents to pay school fees through multiple channels, including mobile apps, over-the-counter bank services, and agent networks.

The service is free for both schools and parents, and it’s open to everyone, no Ecobank account required.

“This collaboration with Sure Pay is not just about easing payments, but also about empowering schools with tools to manage finances better. We are committed to supporting education by ensuring smooth, secure, and fast transactions for everyone.” said Elizabeth Mwerinde Kasedde, Head of Commercial Banking at Ecobank Uganda.

Parents can now use the Ecobank Mobile App, QuickTeller-Interswitch, Ecobank branches, or ABC Agents across the country to make fee payments. The system processes payments in real-time, sending instant SMS alerts to both parents and schools. Each student is also assigned a unique code to help schools track payments with ease and accuracy.

SurePay also offers schools a full suite of digital tools, including automated reconciliation, updated student records, and even report card generation for nursery through A-Level students. There’s also an in-built SMS feature for sending reminders or important updates to parents.

To further support schools, especially those owned by women, Ecobank has pledged UGX 1 billion in funding to help institutions expand infrastructure and manage working capital needs.

To join the platform, schools are required to open an account with Ecobank. Once on board, they can access all of SurePay’s tools, and parents can begin making payments through their preferred channel. The partners hope to bring at least 300 new schools into the network by the end of 2025.

SurePay is no newcomer to the education space. The platform already works with more than 4,000 schools in Uganda and has partnered with other banks and telecoms in the past.

This latest collaboration with Ecobank is part of a wider push to digitize payments and promote financial inclusion across Uganda’s education system.
