I&M Bank Tanzania’s Retail Banking Strategy
Her appointment comes as I&M Bank Tanzania expands its retail banking operations through digital channels, new products and alternative distribution networks.
The bank reported total assets of TZS1.013 trillion as at June 30, 2026, taking it across the TZS1 trillion threshold. Customer deposits stood at TZS719.2 billion during the period, while non-performing loans were reported at 4.18 percent.
The bank has been expanding its retail offering through products and services targeting individual customers, SMEs and other segments.
Among its recent retail initiatives is the TZS100 billion Medium-Term Note Programme, known as the I&M Hatua Bond. The product allows retail investors to participate with a minimum investment of TZS500,000 and offers a fixed annual return of 13 percent, according to the information provided.
I&M Bank Tanzania has also introduced free bank-to-wallet transfers under its “Ni Bure Kabisaaa” initiative, covering mobile money wallets including M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa and Airtel Money.
The bank has further expanded digital banking through services such as WhatsApp banking and its iClick internet banking platform.
I&M Bank Tanzania’s expansion follows increased ownership by its parent, I&M Group PLC, which raised its stake in the Tanzanian subsidiary to 95.5 percent in 2026.
The bank has set an ambition of moving into Tanzania’s top 10 largest banks within three to four years, supported by growth in its retail business and new sources of funding.
