Stawika Loans

A Complete Guide to Stawika Loans in Kenya

Stawika is a digital lending platform operated by Stawika Capital Limited that provides unsecured mobile loans for individuals and small business owners in Kenya. The platform targets users seeking quick emergency funds without collateral or extensive paperwork.

Stawika Loan Features

Stawika offers personal loans ranging from KSh 500 to KSh 50,000, while business-focused products provide higher limits of up to KSh 1,000,000 for established enterprises.

Standard Stawika interest rates are approximately 21%, though specialized products such as the Women’s Loan may carry rates as low as 5% for a two-week term.

Personal loans typically have a repayment period of 30 days, with some flexible options extending up to 60 days. Stawika processing fees vary depending on the product and loan amount and are applied at the time of disbursement.

Once approved, Stawika loans are usually transferred to the borrower’s M-Pesa account within five minutes, making the Stawika platform a fast and accessible option for emergency funding.

Eligibility Criteria for Stawika Loans

To apply for a Stawika loan, borrowers must meet the following requirements:

  • Age & Identification: Must be a Kenyan citizen aged 18 years or older with a valid National ID.
  • Device & Mobile Money: Requires an Android smartphone and an active M-Pesa account.
  • Credit Assessment: Stawika uses mobile phone data, including M-Pesa transaction history, to determine creditworthiness. CRB status may be considered, but mobile financial history and social capital are also evaluated.
  • Income Verification: Applicants may need to share a six-month M-Pesa statement via Safaricom *234# to confirm income.

How to Apply for a Stawika Loan

  1. Download the App: Install the Stawika app from Google Play Store and register.
  2. Use USSD: Dial the USSD code *872# to start the application without the app.
  3. Submit Loan Request: Fill in personal details and request a loan within the approved limit.

Repayment Process

Repayments for Stawika loans are made through M-Pesa using Paybill 830685. Borrowers should use their registered mobile phone number as the account number when making payments.

Failure to repay on time may result in a late payment penalty and could lead to listing with the CRB, which may affect future borrowing opportunities.

Borrowers can monitor their loans through the Stawika app or by using the USSD interface, allowing them to track repayment schedules and outstanding balances.

For business loans, higher limits are evaluated based on the borrower’s transactional history and overall business performance, ensuring credit is extended responsibly.
