NCBA Group PLC has appointed James M. Gossip as the new Managing Director of NCBA Bank Kenya PLC, effective May 12, 2025. The appointment follows the receipt of all required regulatory approvals and is part of a board-level realignment announced in 2024.

Gossip, an international banking executive with over 30 years of experience, steps into the role with a mandate to drive NCBA Bank Kenya’s operations, aligning with the group’s wider goals of long-term growth and strengthened governance.

His appointment comes as NCBA seeks to enhance operational efficiency and expand its market presence in Kenya and the region.

Prior to joining NCBA, Gossip served in senior leadership roles across global financial institutions in Europe, Asia, and North America. Most recently, he was Managing Director for the Belt & Road Initiative and Business Corridors, Asia Pacific, at HSBC Global Services Limited in Hong Kong.

In that position, he oversaw cross-border trade and investment strategies within Asia and between Asian and global markets.

Gossip’s background includes executive committee and board-level positions, with a strong track record in organisational transformation, operational risk management, and establishing new market frameworks.

He holds a BA (Hons) in Economics and Accountancy from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, and is an Associate of both the Chartered Institute of Bankers (UK) and the Securities & Futures Association (UK).

According to NCBA Bank Kenya’s board, his role will focus on broadening stakeholder relationships, enhancing the bank’s franchise, aligning strategic priorities, and overseeing overall business performance within Kenya.

The board stated that the leadership repositioning supports NCBA’s goal of building cohesive group-wide operations while delivering on its mandate across its pan-African footprint.

NCBA Group Managing Director and Group CEO John Gachora will continue to lead NCBA Group, focusing on regional business growth, strategic alignment, and stakeholder engagement.

This appointment places Gossip at the helm of NCBA Bank Kenya at a time when the financial institution is navigating a dynamic banking environment and increasing competition in digital and retail banking.
