FirstBank Nigeria has launched a new facial biometric authentication feature on its FirstMobile App, allowing customers to seamlessly enroll and activate their mobile banking without the need for a debit card.

The new update enables users to verify their identity through advanced facial recognition during the registration and onboarding process on FirstMobile App. This eliminates the prior requirement for debit card-based verification, which had limited access for some customers.

The facial biometric system is further strengthened by anti-spoofing detection, a technology designed to block impersonation and fraudulent access attempts, ensuring only genuine users can onboard the application.

“With these new services now live on FirstMobile, we are confident we will undoubtedly enhance our customers’ digital experience,” said Chukwuma Ezirim, Group Executive, E-Business and Retail Products Division at FirstBank.

“We understand the importance of keeping up with the evolving digital landscape, and we are dedicated to providing our customers with cutting-edge solutions that make banking simpler, faster, and more accessible. Our goal is to ensure that every interaction with FirstBank enhances customer satisfaction and builds long-lasting relationships.” he added.

FirstBank Nigeria Cardless Activation Expands Access

The deployment of the FirstBank Nigeria Cardless Activation via facial biometrics expands mobile banking access to several user categories:

  • New customers without an existing debit card
  • Diaspora customers without access to physical banking services
  • Customers with lost, expired, or inactive debit cards
  • Individuals opting for card-free banking
  • Users encountering card verification failures

This initiative allows these users to gain full access to FirstBank’s digital services, including fund transfers, bill payments, and other mobile transactions, with improved speed, reliability, and convenience.

Additional Features on the FirstMobile App

Beyond facial biometrics, the latest update of the FirstBank Nigeria app introduces multiple enhancements designed to improve the overall user experience:

  • Facial recognition-based sign-up and activation: Secure onboarding without the need for debit cards.
  • Virtual credit cards: Facilitating secure online shopping for users who prefer virtual payment options.
  • Instant credit card activation: Reducing wait times and enabling immediate use of credit cards.
  • Salary advance options: Flexible loan access with repayment periods of up to three months.
  • General app improvements and bug fixes: Enhancements to navigation, stability, and performance.

Customers are encouraged to download or update the FirstMobile App via the Google Play Store or Apple Store to access these new features. Returning users may need to re-download the app to enjoy the full suite of updates.
