Stanbic Bank Uganda appoints Diana Agaba Tukundane as new Chief Information Security Officer
Stanbic Bank Uganda has appointed Diana Agaba Tukundane as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and a member of the bank’s Executive Committee.
Tukundane brings nearly two decades of experience in information technology and cybersecurity, with much of her career spanning banking, telecommunications and technology infrastructure in East Africa.
She has worked on cyber resilience strategies, security governance frameworks, IT infrastructure and information security operations, including roles at Stanbic Bank Uganda and dfcu Bank.
Diana Agaba Tukundane’s career at Stanbic Bank Uganda
Diana Tukundane has progressed through several technology and cybersecurity roles at Stanbic Bank Uganda.
She joined the bank as a Network Engineer before moving into information security leadership, eventually becoming Team Leader of Information Security and later Head of Information Security/Cyber Security.
Before joining Stanbic Bank Uganda, Diana Tukundane worked at dfcu Bank, where she served as a Security Specialist and later as Manager of Information Technology Security, Standards & Architecture.
Earlier in her career, she also held engineering and network deployment roles, including at ZTE Corporation.
Education and cybersecurity certifications
Diana Tukundane holds a Master of Science in Management and Information Systems (Change and Development) from the University of Manchester and a Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunications Engineering from Kyambogo University.
Her professional credentials include the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certifications.
She has also undertaken executive management education, including an Executive MBA programme.
What Diana Tukundane’s CISO role means
As Chief Information Security Officer and a member of Stanbic Bank Uganda’s Executive Committee, Diana Tukundane’s role extends beyond the technical management of cybersecurity.
Her responsibilities include aligning cybersecurity risks with business strategy and providing senior management and the Board with oversight of the bank’s information security environment.
The role also covers the development of cyber resilience strategies aimed at protecting customer information, financial transactions and the bank’s internal systems.
Another area of responsibility is fraud mitigation as financial services increasingly rely on digital channels. This includes technology and security measures designed to address threats involving digital identities, mobile wallets and other electronic financial services.
The CISO role also requires the bank to maintain compliance with cybersecurity, data protection and governance requirements applicable to financial institutions in Uganda.
Diana Tukundane has also been recognised for her advocacy for women in technology and has participated in initiatives aimed at encouraging more women to pursue careers in information technology and cybersecurity.
