Safaricom Declares KES 2.00 Per Share Dividend After FY26 Profit Rises to KES 99.7 Billion

Safaricom shareholders have approved a record KES 80.13 billion dividend payout for the financial year ending March 2026 (FY26), with investors set to receive a total dividend of KES 2.00 per share following a strong financial performance.

The approved dividend comprises an interim dividend of KES 0.85 per ordinary share, which was paid in March 2026, and a final dividend of KES 1.15 per share approved by shareholders.

Safaricom’s final dividend will be paid on or about September 4, 2026, to shareholders whose names appear on the company’s register at the close of business on August 4, 2026.

The total FY26 dividend payout of KES 80.13 billion marks the highest distribution by Safaricom to shareholders and comes after the telecommunications company reported strong growth in revenue and profitability during the year.

The dividend approval follows Safaricom’s financial results, which showed attributable profit after tax rising to KES 99.7 billion during the year.

The company recorded group revenue of KES 414 billion, supported by growth in key business segments including M-Pesa monetization and increased mobile data usage.

Safaricom’s earnings growth was also supported by improved performance from its Ethiopian operations, where capital expenditure intensity and startup losses reduced during the period.

Safaricom Dividend per Share Rises to KES 2.00

The FY26 total dividend of KES 2.00 per share represents an increase from the KES 1.20 per share payout maintained in FY25, FY24 and FY23.

The latest payout includes an interim dividend of KES 0.85 per share, up from KES 0.55 per share paid in FY25, while the final dividend increased to KES 1.15 per share from KES 0.65 per share distributed in previous periods.

The increase brings Safaricom’s total dividend payment to shareholders to KES 80.13 billion, up from KES 48.08 billion in the previous payout cycle.

Safaricom Shareholders Approve Largest Cash Distribution

The KES 80.13 billion dividend payout surpasses Safaricom’s previous dividend distribution records, marking the company’s largest cash return to shareholders.

The increase follows a period where Safaricom maintained a flat dividend payout amid higher capital expenditure requirements, including investments linked to the establishment of its Ethiopian subsidiary, alongside currency-related pressures.

The FY26 dividend represents a 66.7% increase compared with the KES 1.20 per share payouts maintained over the previous three financial years.
