Access Bank Tanzania Lowers Tariffs as It Targets Customers, SMEs and Digital Growth
Access Bank Tanzania will introduce lower tariff charges on selected banking transactions from 13 August 2026, as the lender moves to make banking services more affordable, improve customer experience and strengthen its position in Tanzania’s competitive financial services market.
The bank said the revised tariff structure is part of its ongoing commitment to delivering greater value, transparency and accessibility to customers while maintaining service quality.
“Effective 13 August 2026, Access Bank Tanzania will implement lower tariff charges on selected transactions as part of our ongoing commitment to delivering greater value, transparency, and a better banking experience,” the bank said in a customer notice.
The updated tariff schedule will be available through all Access Bank Tanzania branches and on the bank’s official website, allowing customers to review the new charges before implementation.
Lower Fees Support Access Bank’s Expansion Strategy
The tariff reductions come at a time when Access Bank Tanzania is integrating customers and operations following significant expansion moves in the country’s banking sector.
Access Bank has grown its presence in Tanzania through strategic acquisitions, including the acquisition of Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania’s retail banking business and BancABC Tanzania, strengthening its customer base and market footprint.
Following these acquisitions, the bank has focused on retaining customers, improving service delivery and encouraging users to adopt its digital banking platforms.
Lower transaction charges are expected to reduce barriers for customers while improving loyalty among newly acquired account holders who may otherwise consider moving to competing banks.
Push Towards Digital Banking Adoption
Access Bank Tanzania is also expected to use the revised tariffs to accelerate migration from traditional branch-based banking to digital channels.
The bank’s AccessMore mobile application provides customers with services including money transfers, bill payments and account management, allowing transactions to be completed without visiting physical branches.
By making electronic transactions more affordable, the lender aims to increase digital engagement while reducing operational costs associated with over-the-counter banking services.
Supporting Financial Inclusion and SME Growth
The lower tariffs are also expected to support financial inclusion by making banking services more accessible to individuals and small businesses.
For micro-enterprises and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), transaction costs remain a major factor influencing payment choices. Affordable banking fees can encourage more businesses to use formal financial channels for collections, payments and daily operations.
Access Bank Tanzania said the revised charges are designed to provide simpler and more accessible banking solutions for customers.
Lower fees could also encourage increased transaction activity among customers who previously limited their use of banking services because of cost concerns.
