
AfDB and Ethio Telecom Partnership to Drive Digital Transformation in Ethiopia
The African Development Bank (AfDB) and Ethio Telecom have embarked on a collaboration aimed at accelerating Ethiopia’s digital transformation.
This partnership seeks to bolster the nation’s digital economy while contributing to Africa’s broader vision of digital inclusivity and technological advancement.
H.E. Solomon Quaynor, AfDB Vice President for the Private Sector, Infrastructure, and Industrialization Complex, along with Dr. Leandre Bassole, Deputy Director General for the East Africa Region, led the high-level delegation to Ethio Telecom.
The discussions, spearheaded by Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru, revolved around financing the telecom giant’s ambitious initiatives to achieve a “Digital Ethiopia” and advance Africa’s digital potential.
During the discussions, CEO Frehiwot Tamru highlighted Ethio Telecom’s pivotal role in driving digital transformation across Ethiopia and Africa. The company’s efforts in expanding its user base and rolling out innovative solutions are rapidly transitioning Ethiopia into a digitally connected, technology-driven economy.
As one of Africa’s largest telecom operators, Ethio Telecom is dedicated to bridging the digital divide, fostering economic opportunities, and championing sustainable development.
Frehiwot emphasized that partnerships with key stakeholders, such as AfDB, are essential to realizing the dream of a digitally empowered continent.
She noted that financial support for telecom operators like Ethio Telecom is not merely about improving connectivity—it is about empowering entire economies, creating jobs, and enabling sectors like education, health, and commerce to thrive in the digital age.
